Day 3 - EARLY
It's 4:30 AM here in Ethiopia. Either the jetlag is messing me up or I'm way too excited to sleep. Probably both.
The couple we met yesterday (or whenever day it was) in the airport has a blogsite. You can view it here. They've already met their kids! We meet ours on Monday.
We've solved the twin bed dilemma. Bethany's on the floor. Kailey's on the crack.
My mind's racing. Even here in Ethiopia there are two worlds - the "haves" and the "have-nots". Our fifth story view from our room overlooks the "have-nots" (see yesterday's post). The other side of the hotel overlooks the hotel's amenities - the "haves". I'll try to take some pictures in the daylight. Last night we ate at the Hilton's restaurant. Their "International Food Buffet" was 180 birr per person. That would be over $75 for our family excluding tip - for one meal (we decided to eat off the pizza menu for $28 instead). Neti and Meke's family of three survived on $11 a month before they were in the orphanage. Quite a contrast.
We love the Ethiopian people! They're so friendly and helpful (and patient with our lack of cultural and language knowledge). I can't help but look at the Ethiopian women and imagine what Neti and Meke will someday look like. Just taking it all in.
